The club offers to its membership several special groups which generally meet monthly. Anyone can introduce a new group by presenting the idea to the president. Over the years we have had a variety of groups, such as water gardening, bird group, and annuals. The current groups are listed below. It is usually asked that you sign up in advance so the hostess knows how many people to plan on, as group meetings generally are held in homes. They typically meet the same day each month. Most of the groups are educational in structure, but also an opportunity to meet in smaller groups and enjoy the social aspects of the group. They are very popular, so come and try one out. You’ll find many friendly faces!
The Perennials + group meets the 3rd Thursday of each month (September through May) and explores ways of using perennials in the garden and the home as well as their cultivation. A fun and informative program is presented each month, based on the group’s interest. Meetings are for AGC members only, although attendance is quite fluid, as members simply attend any group meetings that interest them. Details will be published in the club’s newsletter. 2016-17 chair is Becky Stoughton. For more information, or if you’d like to attend the next meeting, email Becky at Rebecca.Stoughton@gmail.com.
Paper Craft Flower Workshop
As part of giving back to the community, the club provides flower arrangements each month at the New Horizon Soup Kitchen in Manchester. (See Giving page for more details.) Historically these have been fresh flowers, but recently the club has made colorful paper flower arrangements for the tables for select months and real floral arrangements for other months. Interested members attend paper craft flower workshops co-chaired by Joan Poltack, Diane Merrithew and Dawn Burke, where the flowers are each hand made. Date, time and place for specific workshops may be found in the club’s monthly newsletter.
