As a benefit of membership, the club offers several special interest groups. These groups have a specific focus, but they are also a chance to get together in smaller groups and socialize with other members.
Come try one out — you’ll find many friendly faces! You can sign up by clicking the SIGN UP! button on the right-hand side of the page.
Anyone can introduce a new special interest group by presenting the idea to the president. Over the years we have had a variety of groups, such as water gardening, bird group, and herbs. Current groups are listed below.
Side Shoots
Side Shoots is a special interest group that meets in the evening to accommodate work schedules. Members have an opportunity to talk about what’s growing in their gardens, what they are finding to be a challenge, and what they are curious about. Topics of discussion have included vegetable gardening and indoor plants. And since gardening leads to cooking and preserving the harvest, members share recipes and techniques.
Side Shoots meets monthly via Zoom and uses Google Groups to share information, pictures, links to gardening videos, and questions/answers between meetings. If you are interested in joining
Side Shoots, please send email to Mary Ann Kuhnert.
Perennials+
The Perennials + group meets the 3rd Thursday of each month (September through May) and explores ways of using perennials in the garden and the home as well as their cultivation. A fun and informative program is presented each month, based on the group’s interest. Details are published in the club’s newsletter. Meetings are for club members only, although attendance is quite fluid, as members simply attend any group meetings that interest them. For more information, contact Kathie Breen.
Craft Workshops
Those who enjoy crafts meet a few times a year to make a variety of planned projects taught by members of the AGC. We generally meet at 1:00 in the Johnson Meeting Room of the Amherst Library. A fee is charged to cover provided materials. This is a Members Only group, and pre-registration on SignUp Genius is required. Please watch the Grapevine for upcoming workshop dates and projects. Chairs: Joan Poltack, Diane Merrithew, Dawn Burke
