Amherst Garden Club meets tomorrow (May 4)

The Amherst Garden Club meets tomorrow, Thu., May 4, with day and evening programs:

— 9:00 a.m. (Messiah Lutheran Church) Author and herb expert Norma Weinberg will present “Herb Gardening Through a Sustainable Lens.
— 7:00 p.m. (Parkhurst Place) Master Gardener and Marine Docent Marie Nickerson will share what she describes as “the opportunity of a lifetime” — her role as Steward of Celia Thaxter’s Garden on Appledore Island, Isles of Shoals.

Both programs are free with light refreshments.

Nancy Head represented the Amherst Garden Club at the Souhegan Sustainability Fair on Earth Day, April 22. The purpose of the fair was to promote socially and environmentally responsible living. Nancy Head did a wonderful job pulling together displays to both showcase our club and promote “waterwise gardening.” She had help from Diane Merrithew, Joan Poltack, June Bridgewater, Marti Warren, Christy Belvin, and Joan O’Brien.

May Daytime Program: Herb Gardening

The Amherst Garden Club’s next daytime meeting is Thurs., May 4 at the Messiah Lutheran Church (303 Route 101, Amherst, NH) 9:00-11:30 am. Author and herb expert Norma Weinberg will present “Herb Gardening Through a Sustainable Lens. Norma will explain what it means to be a “sustainable gardener” and the reasons why herb gardening is eco-friendly. Open to the public at no fee.

Make Your Own Floral Centerpiece (April 13)

The Amherst Recreation Department is offering a floral design class. “…Learn the basic principles of floral design and how to create a beautiful spring centerpiece. Every participant will leave with a beautiful centerpiece of their own…”

When: Thursday, April 13th from 6-8pm
Fee: $120 (includes all materials)
Instructor: Guylaine Ostrander is a certified professional floral designer of over 25 years. She has taught adult enrichment classes in floral design.

April Daytime Program: The Art of Growing Food

The Amherst Garden Club’s next daytime meeting is Thurs., April 6 at the Messiah Lutheran Church (303 Route 101, Amherst, NH) 9:00-11:30 am. The speaker will be award-winning food and garden writer Ellen Ecker Ogden. Join us for her presentation, “The Art of Growing Food,” and learn how to grow an edible garden with an eye towards beauty, easy care, and pleasure. Open to the public at no fee.

Your garden club is cordially invited to the May 4 meeting Monadnock Beekeeping Association. This meeting will be held at Stonewall Farms in Keene New Hampshire the first Thursday of the month.

This is a FREE seminar given by Tom Sullivan.  About natural pollinators in central New England and how to plant and make habitat for them.
