2020 Annual Meeting and Social on Zoom

Garden club members gathered together via Zoom on June 4 for the club’s annual meeting followed by social time. Thank you to Vice President Kathy Brundage for masterminding an event that made us feel close and connected even though we could not be in one place.

President Becky Stoughton delivered heartfelt remarks as she recounted the events of the year, which took a dramatic turn in March. Although our plans were upended, Becky drew our attention to the many silver linings that have shown through the cloud.

A Special Welcome to New Members

Membership Co-Chairs Sally Hooper and Barbara Williams welcomed the new members and invited them to say “hello” so we could put faces to names.

Kathy Brundage delivered these pretty little flower pins to new members in advance, so that they could wear them online.

Regional Gardening Throughout the Year

Meg Clemens presented the AGC’s “Regional Gardening Throughout the Year,” an invaluable guide created by Meg Clemens, Nancy Hokinson, Diane Merrithew, Judy Smith, Sue Spiess and Karen Woodbury, with guidance from Nancy Head. This perpetual gardening calendar will be available to the public for purchase. Details to follow.

Social Time!

Following the business meeting, we began our social time, starting with toasts to this year and the next.

Garden club members then shared photos of their gardens and talked about the plants. Here is a link to the garden photos, if you missed them.

Slide Show!

We watched a beautiful slide show that Becky put together to commemorate the 2019-2020 AGC year — set to music, appropriately, “I’d Really Love to See You Tonight” and “When Will I See You Again.” You can watch the slide show below.

Door Prizes!

Kathy Brundage awarded door prizes ! The three winners — Joan Poltack, Kathie Breen, and Diana Owen — will get their choice of the following gardening books (to be mailed to them at home).

If you were not one of the lucky winners, here are pictures of the books in case you want to pick one up:

Group Photo!

Those who were able to stay to the end were included in our group photo.  Regrettably we could not include everyone in the photo, as some people had to leave for other appointments.

Thank You Gift

Kathy Brundage presented outgoing president Becky Stoughton with a Simon Pearce vase as a thank you gift from the club for her service. Becky passes along her sincerest thanks for the gift, which she is already putting to use (see below)!

Wishing everyone a wonderful summer!

“…What is so rare as a day in June?
Then, if ever, come perfect days;
Then Heaven tries earth if it be in tune,
And over it softly her warm ear lays;
Whether we look, or whether we listen,
We hear life murmur, or see it glisten;”

― James Russell Lowell
