Discover Portsmouth presents Flowers in Winter: Celia Thaxter’s Island Garden, “a colorful 21st century response to the famous flower garden that 19th century writer Celia Thaxter cultivated in the six inches of soil on the timeless, rocky island of Appledore, Isles of Shoals.”

The exhibit runs Dec. 6 through March 8, 2014. The hours are: Dec. 6-23, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., M-F and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sat & Sun. Open daily.

The opening reception coincides with Portsmouth’s Art Round Town.
